Often we are asked about custom projects and how they are handled. What is the procedure?
Posted below is how FLV Hosting handles custom projects
It works by having a TRD (Technical Requirements Document) written, usually by the programmers who will work on the application, based on an overview from the client.
Having the programmers work on the TRD gets them familiar with the project at hand before actually starting the programming.
A TRD can cost from $300 - $500 (some more involved over $1000) just due to the time involved to write a doc that covers every detail of what is to be done. A small TRD can take just a few hours, but larger TRD can take as much as 30-40 hours to write. This is reflected in the cost estimate taken from the job overview. The client then knows exactly what is going to be done with the TRD and what the price of the full project after the TRD covers.
Further, reporgramming and making changes AFTER a TRD is approved and implimented is a NEW ORDER and subject to additional charges, or a complete rewrite incurring additional charges.
This is the blueprint for the job and provides an accurate representation of what the programmers are expected to do
Think of it this way
We are asked to make a "car"
after its done we then asked to take the sterring wheel and put it in the back seat.
Naturally this would be quite an undertaking.
It is important to make tweaks and changes to the TRD not the programming.
So, we write the TRD, confirm cost, you sign off and approve on it and we make the project.
At this time an accurate price can be given and time to complete, based on the hours needed to do the modules, and the current workload after the TRD is complete
This TRD is a valuable document and the client has no obligation to use FLV HOSTING after its written and a complete price given ---but if you DO use FLV Hosting to complete the project, the cost of the TRD compilation is DEDUCTED from the full project price
We can schedule for a TRD if you still have interest and can provide more information on the project.
Project terms are typically 50% deposit of full project price to start, with balance on delivery.
If to be installed on your servers, we develop on ours, then transfer after we receive the balance
